Alternet Alliance

Privacy

How this website treats your information.

Last updated · November 2026

In short: we collect as little as we can. We do not track you, sell anything about you, or use your information for anything you did not ask for.

Our approach

Alternet Alliance exists so that Nations hold their own data, under their own law. We hold this website to the same standard: we collect only what is needed, keep it only as long as it is needed, and never use it for anything you would not expect.

We do not sell, rent or trade information about anyone. We do not build profiles. We do not track you across the web.

What we collect when you visit

Nothing that identifies you. There are no accounts, no sign-up forms, no newsletter and no comments on this site. We use no analytics, no advertising and no social media trackers.

Like every website, the server that hosts this site keeps short technical logs: the address of the device making the request, the browser, the page asked for and the time. These logs exist to keep the site working and secure. We do not use them to identify or follow anyone, and the host deletes them after a limited time.

Cookies

This site sets one cookie, and only if you use it. When you enter the password for the shared documents, your browser keeps a small cookie so you do not have to type it again on each page. It contains no personal information and expires after ten days.

There are no tracking or advertising cookies, so there is no cookie banner to accept.

When you write to us

If you email us at contact@alternetalliance.com or any of our addresses, we receive your name, your email address and whatever you choose to tell us. We use it only to reply and to continue the conversation you started.

We will not add you to a mailing list, share your message outside the people who need to answer it, or keep it longer than the conversation needs. You can ask us to delete it at any time.

The shared documents

Our living documents and presentations are shared in confidence while the Nations shape them. They sit behind a password, and we ask that you treat them the same way. We do not track who opens them or what they read.

Knowledge that belongs to Nations

This website does not hold any Nation’s knowledge or data. Each Nation’s Vault is separate from this site and governed by that Nation under its own protocols, in line with principles such as the CARE Principles for Indigenous Data Governance and OCAP®.

Nothing a Nation, community or person shares with us in our work appears on this website without their consent.

Who else is involved

This site is hosted by Infomaniak, an independent hosting company based in Switzerland, which is bound by Swiss data protection law.

The typefaces on this site are served from our own server. Opening a page sends no request to Google or any other font service.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to contact@alternetalliance.com and we will answer within thirty days.

Our members and partners live and work in many countries. We follow the privacy laws that apply to us, including those of Canada, Switzerland, Brazil and the European Union, and we apply the most protective standard to everyone.

Changes

If we change how this site handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top. We will not make a change that collects more about you without saying so here first.
